How to Present at CIA |
Independent Presentations
The Center welcomes artists to use its Resources and
Services to independently present their work
including, plays, exhibits, music concerts, artist
forums, readings, artist gatherings, etc. However,
we are not a rental house. The Center nurtures
independent artistic vision, fosters diverse
cultural perspectives and seeks to build an
enlightened citizenry. We particularly support
original work, the work of artists from diverse
cultural groups, and the development of projects
that offer under-represented or uncommon
perspectives.
We work with artists in a variety of disciplines
and with very different needs. The Center charges fees
for use of its Resources/Services. However, in exchange
for use of any resources and services, artists may instead
contribute to The Center by
volunteering their time for clerical work,
technical work, event assistance, etc.
If you are interested in presenting your work
independently at The Center, please call Mankwe Ndosi
at 612-724-8392 or email mankwe@c4ia.org.
Center Presentations
The Center assists select emerging and established
artists to produce and present their work at The Center,
by working with them to raise funds for their
projects. However, we do not generally solicit
proposals. The Center's artistic leadership selects
artists to be presented or produced by The Center. Once
selected, each project has its own development
track, with venue, budget and target audience
determined by the vision of the individual artist(s).
In general, the Center supports projects of artistic
merit that include one or more of the following:
- Address the moral and existential issues of
our times
- Tackle unusual and uncommon subjects
- Encompass diverse cultural perspectives,
particularly those from under-represented
constituencies
- Create dialogue and exchange between cultures
and/or communities
Artists are selected under the following criteria:
- The artist is deeply engaged with their art
form, and exhibits a rigorous commitment to their
chosen craft
- The artist is committed to enhancing the
relationship between their work and its audience
(i.e. through educational activities, community
participation, artist residencies, etc.)
- The artist proposes a specific project (i.e.
the Center does not commission work or offer
fellowships)
