Vision |
We believe that the arts, and the expression of diverse
cultural perspectives, are essential to human enrichment
and to creating understanding between people. Based on
this belief, we seek to nurture and promote diverse artists,
artistic projects, forms and practices, so that we may
educate and enlighten our constituencies, artists and
audiences, about the myriad artistic and cultural
perspectives that make up our society.
We believe that the best applicable method to achieve
this larger vision is to distribute the mantle of leadership
onto the shoulders of individual artists, by enabling them
to design, implement and articulate the desired outcomes
of their work. This approach, we believe, will result in the
Center for Independent Artists becoming a fertile field for
the cross-pollination of diverse voices, and allow for
meaningful engagement not only between artists and
audiences, but also amongst artists themselves.
We believe that through the expression of their
independent artistic vision, these artists will collectively
help realize the goals of the organization.
We believe that diversity is at the core of our mission.
To that end, we work pro-actively to build cultural diversity
at all levels of operation; among participating artists and
audiences, the artistic leadership, board of directors, and
advisory committee.
Provide individual artists with physical and creative
space to develop their craft, and design and implement
their projects
Enable artists from commonly under-served groups to
develop and share their artistic vision
Make available low-cost resources to artists. Serve as a
clearinghouse for information and opportunities related to
arts activities in the metro area
Present the work of select, independent artists. Provide
the supporting infrastructure to allow artists to self-
produce work
Educate audiences and artists about diverse artistic
forms and practices
Partner with other arts and community organizations in
order to identify employment and artistic development
opportunities for independent artists
3 Year Plan The Center has a growth plan
that
will be realized in phases. Phase I will focus operations
primarily in Theater, with a secondary focus on other
artistic disciplines.
10 Year Plan The growth plan for the
first ten years includes:
- Established operations in Theater
- Expanded operations in other artistic
disciplines
- In-house audio/video recording and editing
- Health care plan for individual artists
- Housing facilities for out-of-town artists
- Building a network of similar centers in other U.S.
